Love Rosie London Premiere Report

Love, Rosie

Based on Cecelia Ahern’s novel Where Rainbows End, LOVE, ROSIE sees best friends Rosie and Alex continuously miss chances to become a couple – yet their friendship remains. The lead roles in the adaptation are played by Lily Collins and Sam Claflin and the pair, along with other cast members and German director Christian Ditter were on hand in London to talk about the film for the premiere.

Director Christian Ditter

Making LOVE, ROSIE was a big deal for Ditter, who went to Ireland for the first time in his life in order to make it. He explained that he packed only ‘weather gear’ for the journey but was surprised when they didn’t have a single day of rain!

The director had nothing but praise for his lead actors, saying that Lily and Sam were ‘the best people to work with’. His trust allowed him the freedom to improvise as he also told the cast to just keep going after a scene had finished. ‘They were so into the characters; we got some fun results from that,’ he explained.

Seemingly unaffected by the stress of adapting a novel, Ditter went on to say that he quite enjoyed filling in the gaps of the text, looking at the things that take place between the correspondence in the novel. ‘People don’t want to read a movie,’ he said. ‘They want to watch a movie.’

Though the author was not involved in the adaptation process, Cecelia Ahern was at the premiere to talk about the story. She paid tribute to Juliette Towhidi who wrote the screenplay and said that she even managed to get a cameo in the film. Sadly, we won’t be seeing it any time soon as the scene was cut from the final film. Ahern summed up the story rather succintly, explaining that ‘It’s funny and it’s sad. It’s really moving and it’s naughty.’

‘Sam’s such a funny guy . . . I just laughed the whole time.’ – Tamsin Egerton on the joy of working with Sam Claflin.

Tamsin Egerton, one of Claflin’s love interests in the film, said that making the film was ‘hilarious fun’, adding that ‘Sam’s such a funny guy . . . I just laughed the whole time.’ Egerton echoed Ditter’s comments on the improvisational element, saying how much she enjoyed being given that freedom by the director.

Lily Collins

The female lead of the film, Lily Collins, received an incredibly enthusiastic reaction from the crowd on her arrival, something she took in her stride.

‘I think a lot of the awkwardness in this movie is what makes it so funny,’ – Lily Collins

It seems she had no qualms taking on the rather awkward and embarrassing moments her character experiences in LOVE, ROSIE either.

‘I think a lot of the awkwardness in this movie is what makes it so funny,’ she said. ‘We shine a lught on those awkward moments and say “It’s OK!”‘

LOVE ROSIE arrives in cinemas on 22nd October.
