Catherine Zeta-Jones For Role As Drug Lord

Catherine Zeta- Jones was once one of the brightest stars of British actresses but has been quiet over the last few years. This is set to change though as she has managed to land a rather interesting role in new film THE GODMOTHER. No not a sequel to THE GODFATHER series the film instead is a biopic of drug Lord Griselda Blanco.

Having previously portrayed a drug Lord’s wife in TRAFFIC, Zeta-Jones will now go one step further and become the drug Lord (well technically Dame). Blanco was the first and as yet only woman to ascend to the higher rankings of the Medellin drug cartel. The Darling Buds of May beauty will have a lot of story to sink her teeth into, as Blanco was quite the lady.

Starting life as a runaway and prostitute Blanco fought her way up the ranks of the drug cartels and is thought to be responsible for ordering the assassinations of hundreds in order to keep her place. So notorious was she that she earned not one but three nicknames; The Black Widow, Cocaine Godmother, and La Madrina. A prominent figure during the drug wars of the 70’s and 80’s Blanco was eventually caught and imprisoned in 1985. She died in a drive-by shooting after her release.

The film will be directed by Eva Sørhaug, no release date had been set yet. Given that Blanco was Colombian we can’t help but think that someone like Sofia Vergara or Salma Hayek would be better suited to the role, but it will be nice to see Jones take on a more central role again.
