Producer Roberto Orci may have left the project to focus on directing STAR TREK 3 but the POWER RANGERS reboot is continuing on regardless and will see a familiar face return to the franchise.
The film is being scripted by X-MEN: FIRST CLASS writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz and although plot details have yet to emerge one cast member has been confirmed, well at least if he’s got anything to say about it. Jason David Frank played stayed with the Power Rangers longer than any other ranger, starring in several incarnations of the show. His character Tommy Oliver joined the show as the evil green ranger who was being controlled by Rita Repulsa before switching to the good side. His time as the green ranger with his trusty fan favourite Dragonzord was short-lived all thanks to a green candle. He later returned as the leader of the rangers as the white ranger, a position he had during the first movie. Later series had him come back as Professor Oliver, a mentor for the Dino Thunder Rangers.
One of the most popular rangers (though this writer was not a fan) , fans were hopeful that he wuld make an appearance in the reboot and it seems that Frank is more than up for it. Speaking to Comicbook.com recently he revealed that he will ‘probably’ be involved:
I probably will be involved. They [Lionsgate] talked to me about it. I don’t know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie.
Although not certain of plot details he did disclose that before the movie was announced there was talk of a Green Ranger series:
I haven’t heard anything, except for what Roberto released. They are so tight-lipped on that project, it’s ridiculous. I don’t even know my involvement into it. They talked to me about being involved, and the fans would love to see me involved. You know, we were originally talking about a Green Ranger series, but unfortunately just due to the Lionsgate movie, they don’t want to overshadow anything or suppress the appetite of the fans, which is a little disappointing, but there’s still possibilities of it. It’s just I think they are trying to save…honestly, I think they are trying to save my appearance for the Lionsgate movie.
With Frank all but officially confirmed could we be about to see a slew of past faces announced for the new film? Who would you love to come back? More importantly who do you want as your rangers?
The new POWER RANGERS movies will be released 22nd July 2016.
