Sign Us Up! University In The US Offers Course On ‘Marvel’ Films

Guardians

You read that headline right folks, a University in the US have announced plans to offer students a course in all things Marvel. The course which is entitled ‘Media Genres: Media Marvels’ will start in the spring at the University of Baltimore.

Sitting around watching Marvel studio films and having it count as studying will be a dream come true for many out there but students will have to put in a lot of the work. The syallabus will focus on Marvel’s ‘profound statements about the nature of heroisim’ and ‘our willingness to trade freedom for security’.

The course will be taught by Arnold T Blumberg who explains:

“Every generation has a modern media mythology that serves as a framework for entertaining as well as educating about ethics, morality, issues of race, gender, class, and so on.

For the past several years, HARRY POTTER and LORD OF THE RINGS have served in that role for tens of millions. When I was younger, it was the first STAR WARS series. [Now with Marvel] we have a generation coming of age with these characters and this completely mapped-out universe. It could be argued that it’s never been done better.

But no matter what your age, there is always a fantasy/sci-fi/superhero realm that helps you to explore your place in the world, your identity, and your ideals. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is that realm for this generation.”

The core text for the new subject will be the fantastic GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY; a film that surpassed everyone’s expectations with us all falling head-over-heels for a talking tree and raccoon.

There’s only one question we at THN have; where do we sign up?!
