SyFy To Follow ‘Sharknado’ With ‘Lavalantula’: See Poster

Not content with splicing a varied host of creatures in films such as SHARKTOPUS, DINOCROC and PIRANHACONDA, SyFy branched out into animal/weather combinations with SHARKNADO. A surprise success, the film which saw a shiver of sharks scooped up into a passing tornado, the result a blood thirsty ‘Sharknado’. This year saw the sequel elegantly titled SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE released, once more it the film ‘impressed’ audiences and a third film has been green-lit.

Wanting to capitalise on their successful momentum the channel/studio have been wracking their minds to find the successor to the SHARKNADO throne. Inspiration has finally struck and it seems that they may have found what they were looking for in LAVALANTULA. What is a Lavalantula?! I hear you cry; well a Lavalantula is obviously a fire-breathing giant spider. Given that the word lava is in the name instead of something closer to fire could these spiders come from a vocalno?

The new project is lining up for a summer 2015 air date and will serve as a partial POLICE ACADEMY reunion as three stars of the franchise will feature heavily in the film; Steve Guttenberg, Michael Winslow and Leslie Easterbrook. The trio will have the unenviable task of trying to save Los Angeles as it comes under attack by the giant arachnids. Mike Mendez, who directed BIG ASS SPIDERS is on board to direct.

To whet your appetite we’ve got the poster to share with you (arachnophobes be warned the below image contains giant fire-breathing spiders)
