Alexander Armstrong Goes From Pointless To Penfold As ‘Danger Mouse’

Alexander Armstrong

CBBC are reviving classic animated series Danger Mouse:  the tongue-in-cheese-in-cheek adventures of a rodent secret agent who lives in a postbox and upholds all things British with the help of his rodent assistant Penfold. David Jason and the late Terry Scott were the iconic voices that thrilled a previous generation for Cosgrove Hall, but who have the Beeb lined up to fill the space left by their larynxes…? The legend has been revealed – Alexander Armstrong is the new Danger Mouse.

Best known as host of game show Pointless as well as being one half of a sketch duo with Ben Miller, Armstrong is also an accomplished actor. He’s been heard before on the channel in the role of computer Mr. Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures and is a solid choice to fly the flag for the remake. He remarks:

To be actually involved with the reboot and to be taking DM out to a whole new generation is about as close to a dream job as you could wish for.

Also confirmed are cult comedian Kevin Eldon as Penfold and Morwenna Banks in support. Dave Lamb, the strident narrator of Come Dine With Me, will comment on DM’s exploits, a task undertaken by Jason for the original run. No word on who’s playing authoritative chinchilla Colonel K yet, though reportedly this new version will be more female-heavy.

A production of Boulder Media/FremantleMedia Kids, the 52 episodes are hitting screens next year. “Crumbs!” indeed.
