All set to take our breath away again, TOP GUN 2 is one of those belated and long discussed sequels we await with both excitement and trepidation. There’s been talk for years about a sequel in which Maverick (Tom Cruise) returns to tutor the next generation of Top Gun pilots, and the film has finally landed a writer in the form of Justin Marks. Justin Marks has recently written the screenplay for Jon Favreau’s adaptation of Disney’s THE JUNGLE BOOK, but we must also remind ourselves that he was responsible for STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI.
TOP GUN 2 seemed to have stalled after the death of Tony Scott, the man behind the original film, but it looks as though producer Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to push forward. Some sequels suffer from such a huge gap, but we’ll wait and see how the final film turns out. Back in the 80s, shots of incredible aerial displays were exciting enough, but in a time when CGI can recreate anything, we wonder if it will have the same impact. Fingers crossed we’ll be taken back to the danger zone while playing with the boys, and all the other songs on that epic soundtrack too.
