In a development with a distinctly Nineties flavour THE MATRIX star Keanu Reeves is to produce a drama alongside INDEPENDENCE DAY director Roland Emmerich set in the world of virtual reality. New Angeles is created by comic book writer Gregg Hurwitz and concerns a real world nobody who becomes enmeshed in an electric mystery set against the alternate setting of the title. Slingshot Media are producing, though following the announcement of another Reeves collaboration Rain it’s unclear at this stage whether he’ll stay behind the scenes in this latest production.
Despite the well-worn subject matter Slingshot’s David Ellender has commented excitedly on the show, whose Emmerich-directed pilot hits the slate soon:
We’re thrilled to have Roland and Keanu on board for a project of this magnitude. Roland’s masterful vision for this is extraordinary and Keanu’s action work behind and in front of the camera speaks for itself.
Jointly-produced with Reeves’ Company Films and Emmerich’s Centropolis, the results should prove whether a strangely old-fashioned but interesting idea has cyber legs.
