Release Dates Set For Two ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Sequels

Terminator.

For franchise Blockbuster films with astronomical production budgets, it’s standard procedure for studios to plant their sequel flags reasonably early in order to secure their place ahead of the competition. Although this may seem awfully presumptuous of said studios (given the often-unpredictable box office), Marvel and Disney have shown that there is no such thing as ‘over-planning’ where franchises are concerned.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Paramount and Skydance have already set release dates for two further sequels to next year’s TERMINATOR: GENISYS. Although we have known from the beginning that the upcoming science fiction sequel/reboot is intended to begin a new trilogy, there had been no formal indication this would come to fruition until now. And so, Paramount have set TERMINATOR 2 for 19th May 2017 and TERMINATOR 3 for 29th June 2018. The fact that these two sequels will be released only a year apart seems to suggest that they will be shooting back-to-back, much like Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and the second and third PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN installments.

This method of producing faster sequels is not only cheaper for the studio, but it could also be an attempt to pump out a new TERMINATOR trilogy before the rights revert back to James Cameron in 2019. On top of that, it would a great way of utilising the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger a couple more times before he hangs up his leather jacket and shades for the final time.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS will hit theatres on 26th June 2015. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, J.K Simmons and Byung-hun Lee.
