HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 was released earlier this summer to mass critical acclaim and huge box office returns, which of course guaranteed a third film in fantastic animated film series.
Although anticipation for the sequel was enormously high following the astounding reception its predecessor, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 managed to deliver a satisfying and creative expansion of the world created in 2010’s original film. However, despite this immense success (and the fact that the film is the highest grossing animated film of 2014), DreamWorks have decided to push back the release date of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 from 17th June 2016 to 9th June 2017. The reason for this sudden move is rumoured to stem from the fact that the films original release date would have put it in direct competition with Disney and Pixar’s FINDING DORY.
Although this is an extremely disappointing decision for audience members eagerly anticipating a third trip to Berk, this is probably a smart move from DreamWorks. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 3 will undoubtedly be a huge success at the worldwide box office, however it would be unwise to take on Pixar and the legions of fans attached to Dory and her colourful friends. FINDING NEMO remains an animated classic to rival that of any other Disney or Pixar release, and therefore carries a massive audience that will no doubt flock to see the belated sequel. However, this move will give DreamWorks the time to produce a third HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON film that brings the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion.
