Esoteric writer/director Lars Von Trier is to stop frustrating/delighting cinema audiences and concentrate his talents on the small screen with the announcement of The House That Jack Built . No other details are forthcoming, aside from the fact that the project will be in English, but knowing Von Trier there may be a bit more detail than a man putting a roof over his head. After all this is the filmmaker who killed a goat on the set of DOGVILLE and created the world’s most disturbing masturbation scene for ANTICHRIST. Oh and if that wasn’t enough craziness for you the project was made known at the press conference for NYMPHOMANIAC VOLUME II – DIRECTORS CUT at the Venice Film Festival, where in addition to chilling in a gondola you can take in Charlotte Gainsbourg’s deranged sexual gymnastics.
Danish Von Trier created hospital-based TV shocker The Kingdom twenty years ago, a series notable for its use of Down’s Syndrome characters and the appearance of the showrunner himself, who would appear in a natty bow tie at the end of each episode for a cryptic overview. The House That Jack Built will be produced by Louise Vesth of NYMPHOMANIAC’s Zentropa and is set to go into production in 2016.
