Jon Stewart’s directorial debut is gathering critical praise and public intrigue for ROSEWATER, his film based on the best-selling memoir and true story ‘Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival’ by Maziar Bahari.
The film stars the ever-encapsulating Gael Garcia Bernal stars as the Tehran-born broadcast journalist with Canadian citizenship who headed into Iran in 2009 with the intentions of interviewing a presidential candidate. However, as protests broke out during what their people felt was a fixed election, Bahari was arrested, questioned and interrogated for 118 days by a man he only knew as Rosewater.
I’ve been keeping an eye on this project for a while and not only because I believe in Stewart’s talent for a story to tell, but also for the insightful nature that only films can bring. Watch the powerful trailer:
ROSEWATER opens in the US on 7th November with other dates yet to be confirmed.
