Looks like Disney will be shaking in their boots, as Warner Brothers have cast Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan the tiger, in their adaption of THE JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS.
Warner Brothers will soon be competing against Disney’s adaption of Rudyard Kipling’s books, who famously brought to screen the much loved animated version in 1967. Callie Kloves has wrote the script and her father, Steve Kloves (scriptwriter of all the HARRY POTTER films) will be producing. While Disney have Idris Elba to voice Shere Khan, Warner Brothers have successfully bagged SHERLOCK star Benedict Cumberbatch, to play the man-eating tiger, who wants to kill the orphan boy, Mowgli.
You could say this is a perfect role for Cumberbatch, due to his other villainous roles as Khan in STAR TREK IN TO DARKNESS and as Smaug the mighty dragon in THE HOBBIT. What’s even more interesting is that motion-capture king Andy Serkis is directing! He’s picked up some experience directing alongside Peter Jackson in THE HOBBIT films, so it will be fascinating to see what he can bring to the table compared with Jon Favreau.
Claws will certainly be coming out when both films are released in 2015.
