No, THE EQUALIZER isn’t about the long drawn-out process of fighting back after being a goal down for 89 minutes (Football joke!) but instead about former black ops commando Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) who fakes his own death for a quiet life in Boston.
However, he can’t resist the action and ends up coming out of his retirement to rescue young girl Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), and finds himself face to face with Russian gangsters – as you do on a Tuesday night. It’s directed by Antoine Fuqua who you’ll know for TRAINING DAY, SHOOTER and the rather surprisingly good OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN with co-starring roles for Bill Pullman, and Melissa Leo.
It doesn’t exactly seem to be in the same vein as the highly successful TV Series from the 1980s, or feel much like Edward Woodward’s private eye, so let’s assume they’re using the title and going for a little ‘reworking’ of that source material, it is Fuqua after all – with added shot-glass in the eye and super-skilled fighting…
