It seems that up-and-coming horror scribe Seth M. Sherwood has been penned to write an aptly named prequel, LEATHERFACE to the 1974 horror classic that was TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE for Millenium Films. who are keen on rebooting the franchise. Sherwood, though relatively unknown has had his name stirring amongst the horror genre community, with him being potentially linked to multiple projects.
For now, there’s no word as to the synopsis, though it will most likely follow the early years of Leatherface and how he came to be one of the most notable faces of horror. Whilst there is no director currently attached, it’s likely one will join the project in the coming weeks, with Carl Mazzocone (who worked on the likes of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D, REPO: THE GENETIC OPERA and THE TORTURED) producing and Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman (both of whom also served on TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3D) serving as executive producers. Both Campbell and Grobman were keen to resurrect the franchise and are thrilled to be working on the next installment. There are no details as of yet as to casting announcements.
Production is expected to start as early as this winter, but a release date isn’t set.
What do you guys think of the reboot? Just another in a long-line of unnecessary franchise recycling, or will this be beneficial? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below!
