We’ve got the first image from the Stephen Hawking biopic THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING starring Eddie Redmayne as the celebrated Scientist with direction from James Marsh (MAN ON WIRE, SHADOW DANCER).
The trailer is due Wednesday but for the time being Universal Pictures and Working Title’s upcoming release looks set to explore the early days of Hawking’s life and expand a side that we’ve never truly seen before. It’s set to show his relationship with arts student Jane Wilde (portrayed in the film by Felicity Jones) and how they fell in love whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s.
It’s interesting to learn that little was expected from Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, who was given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. However, he became galvanized by the love of fellow student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children.
We look forward to seeing more from the trailer later this week, but for now, here’s the first look:
THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING opens in the US on November 7th, and in the UK on January 2nd, 2015. It also co-stars David Thewlis, Emily Watson, Charlie Cox, Simon McBurney, Maxine Peake, and Harry Lloyd with the screenplay written by Anthony McCarten.
