Box-Office Rockets On Opening Weekend For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy_900x506

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is already going from strength to strength and it’s only the opening weekend! From the initial reports in the States that it opened on Friday at $37.8 million, they’re expecting it to hit $92 million which will out-strip August’s best-ever of the THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM in 2007 with $69.3m and you know what, James Gunn and the team deserve the huge success!

It opened in the UK to $2.3m in the previews but very interestingly 12% of that at IMAX, so it seems us Brits are taking to the big experience more every year and there will be further figures shortly.

What’s particuarly crazy about the USA stats as well is that GOTG has been given the biggest opening ever (!) in August as it has hit over 4,000 theatres with 3,200 showing it in 3D. And they say cinema is dead? It’s bigger than ever!

We’ve been covering the launch of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY extensively so for all our interviews, red carpet and review just head to this handy link here.

The film expands Marvel’s stunning universe in this Phase Two moment and it cost $170 million to make. The best thing is that it’s also been an absolute winner with both audiences and those pesky critics, currently earning 92% on Rotten Tomatoes with (surely) only people who didn’t watch it giving it bad reviews. Science-Fiction hasn’t looked or felt this good since STAR WARS.

Directed by James Gunn, GOTG stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (voicing Rocket) and Vin Diesel (voicing Groot) with a second installment of Jackson Pollock-quips heading our way in the summer of 2017.
