He spent several years in the heat of Miami opposite Dexter, now David Zayas is headed for the moody gloom of Batman’s home city in Gotham. He’ll play Sal Maroni, the mob boss who inadvertently created Two-Face, last portrayed on screen by Eric Roberts in THE DARK KNIGHT. His story in this TV prequel will involve a turf war with rival Carmine Falcone (John Doman), a road that leads him inevitably to the attention of the soon-to-be-Caped Crusader.
Zayas has a lot of expertise to bring to the role as in a former life he was in the NYPD. Swapping the flowery shirts of Angel Batista for the snappy threads and bruised knuckles of a comic book heavy looks like it’ll suit him just fine. And if he gets depressed he can always lift his spirits watching his work in the upcoming remake of ANNIE.
Gotham will debut September 22nd on Fox.
