Excellent Insightful Featurette For Mike Cahill’s ‘I Origins’

Mike Cahill is an interesting film-maker who continues to work on smaller projects but ones that strike a chord and make the viewer contemplate what you’re watching – it’s intelligent stuff but never inaccessible.

After the documentary BOXERS AND BALLERINAS (2004), that was shot over two years and focused on the US-Cuba conflict through the eyes of four young people, he then directed ANOTHER EARTH in 2011. It was one of the first films I reviewed for THN and opened up an interesting question of meeting another ‘you’ – and what would you do?

Cahill’s new film I ORIGINS explores the relationship of the ‘eye’ in the evolution of our species. It tells the story of scientist Ian (Michael Pitt), who falls in love with Sofi (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey), and starts to discover something that science has never found before. The film also co-stars Cahill alumni Brit Marling in a secondary scientist and love interest role, spicing up proceedings!

To watch the trailer then head over here. If you’ve already seen it, then you can enjoy this new featurette thanks to the folks over at FirstShowing, who’ve been lucky enough to already see it in the States.

If you were after a more in-depth discussion and look at I ORIGINS, I’d also recommend heading over to their site. The film is currently in limited release in North America and although doesn’t have a confirmation date for the UK, it does opens the Raindance Film Festival on September 24th.
