Some of the best news to come out of Comic-Con was from the wonderful guys at Legendary, who hinted at some details at GODZILLA 2 as well as surprising us with news of a new King Kong flick titled SKULL ISLAND. Now hopefully this will all lead up to a King Kong versus Godzilla film in the future, but for now let’s focus on SKULL ISLAND. It is being reported that ATTACK THE BLOCK director and the Joe half of Adam & Joe, Joe Cornish, has been offered the chance to direct the hot property. Although ATTACK THE BLOCK is far from one of my favourite films, Cornish managed to do quite a bit with not a lot. On top of that, the writer of this year’s GODZILLA, Max Borenstein, will script the film.
SKULL ISLAND will explore the origins of Kong and how he came to be worshipped as a god on the titular island. It’s an interesting twist on the tale, but is it one that we want explored? The mystery behind Kong has always been one of the best things about the many adaptations. Still, with GODZILLA 2, PACIFIC RIM 2, and now SKULL ISLAND on the way, it’s a grand time to be a monster movie fan.
SKULL ISLAND is set for a 4th November 2016 release.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
