Benedict Cumberbatch is no stranger to fandoms and there have been rumours linking him to DOCTOR STRANGE for a while. Whilst attending his first Comic-Con promoting THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR, the SHERLOCK star spoke about those DOCTOR STRANGE rumours and whether he has been in talks with Marvel.
“As far as I’m aware, even if that was the case, it couldn’t work out because I’m doing a little play called Hamlet in London. So I don’t think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It’s a shame if I miss out, but who knows?”
It seems highly likely that Cumberbatch has been in contact with Marvel due to his knowledge of the shooting dates. However the star simply smirked and stated he couldn’t possibly comment on whether he had been in serious talks for the highly anticipated role.
SINISTER director Scott Derrickson is set to direct to the film and it is thought that Marvel are to announce the cast this Saturday during the panel.
Cumberbatch’s star power has really exploded this past year with the success of SHERLOCK and his role as Khan in STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS. His recent role as war hero Alan Turing in THE IMITATION GAME is predicted to bring even more success and possible Oscar nominations when it is released this November. With his velvety voice and imposing screen presence it seems fans are desperate to see him in the Marvel universe one day.
Keep checking back for more (hopeful) updates on DOCTOR STRANGE.
