‘Transformers: Age Of Extinction’ Nears $900 Million Worldwide

Transformers AOE

Despite the fact that Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is (critically) the worst received film in the series, it is currently 2014’s highest grossing production and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down any time soon.

So far each successive instalment in incredibly lucrative TRANSFORMERS franchise has out-grossed its predecessor at the worldwide box office. This is a trend that seems set to continue with the fourth helping of Bayhem, as the film currently sits at $886.3 Million worldwide, which is more than both of the first two movies in the series! To put that in perspective, 2007’s TRANSFORMERS grossed $709 Million, 2009’s TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN grossed $836 Million and 2011’s TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON grossed $1.1 Billion. If the box office results for Optimus’ latest Decepticon-demolishing adventure continue to soar into the stratosphere, then it seems almost certain that TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION will become the highest grossing instalment of the series. Of course, whether or not this does come to pass, the film will definitely cross the almighty $1 Billion mark in the coming weeks (or even days).

Although TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION does have its entertaining moments, the film could have easily done with trimming down its running time by an hour or so. Also, as much as I love Mark Wahlberg (who doesn’t?) the original film holds far too much sentimental value for me to let go of Shia Labeouf. Having said that, the cast for this film was ridiculously impressive considering the critical beating the franchise takes on a daily basis. Let’s hope that the next inevitable sequel takes more inspiration from the original and what made it so charming, rather than more mindless explosions.

If we didn’t already know that people like to eat shit, this would be the ultimate proof. Jeez, how they can willingly give BILLIONS to that Michael Bay hack and come back for more eludes me…
