Roberto Orci Promises ‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Won’t Forget The Original Series

When originally announced, the team behind the new POWER RANGERS movie stated that it would“re-envision the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” leaving many to believe it would be a stand-alone film with no relevance to the original series or film. Thankfully they have come to their senses and executive producer Roberto Orci has confirmed that it will not be a ‘leave it behind reboot’.

The producer has previously worked on both TRANSFORMERS and STAR TREK so it would seem he is the perfect pick to make POWER RANGERS a success. In preparation for the project he has spent a lot of time with the series creator Haim Saban and has assured that they are going to do the right thing by everybody.

One of the first things we did was learn and read… They have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we are actually taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. We’re not just a leave it behind reboot. [Haim] Saban cares very much about that. This is something that he created. I had to go to his house, personally, to tell him, “Listen, I’m your man. Miller and Stenz, these are your guys. I promise you I won’t ruin your franchise.” And he said, “It’s very important to me, because kids around the world know what the Power Rangers are. So you can’t just come in here and walk all over it. It better be consistent with what I’ve been doing.” And I said, “Yes sir!”

When asked whether it would have any continuity with any of the original 21 series (that’s right 21!) he would only say:

It’s got continuity within the world. I can’t tell you what, but it does have a continuity.

We recently spoke to some of the stars from both POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE and Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy and all were up for a return, and Orci was also very open to the idea of having cameos from some of the original stars. So if you’re an ex-ranger and you’re reading this I’d be getting in touch with Orci and his team now to get your foot in the door.
