DALLAS BUYERS CLUB director Jean-Marc Vallée’s next project will be DEMOLITION, a drama about a bereaved investment banker. The film has a strong male lead in Jake Gyllenhaal, whose mournful but attractive face will surely put asses on seats, but who to pick for the main female role? Luckily Vallée has a fine candidate in his sights, reportedly entering discussions with Naomi Watts for the part. If agreement is reached she’ll play a single mother who helps Gyllenhaal start a new chapter. The script is by Bryan Sipe and was acquired via the The Black List.
I don’t usually bang on about how great I think people are, but Watts is my favourite actress so I’m all for this. Anything that can steer her away from another MOVIE 43 or DIANA is fine in my book. Intriguingly a certain John Malkovich has a producer credit, so expect a result with a pulsating thespian vein running through it like a stick of rock at the Globe Theatre.
