This is very much an early teaser for PARADISE LOST but gives us a good look at the distinctive Benicio Del Toro in his new role as the crime lord Pablo Escobar. We’re also introduced to Josh Hutcherson’s character Nick and this hopefully seems like a great role for him to show off his acting chops.
The synopsis goes that young surfer Nick (Hutcherson), thinks he’s going to have the time of his life when he visits his brother in Colombia. While there, he meets Maria (Claudia Traisac) and falls in love with her almost instantly and everything is great, and sunny and idyllic…until he meets her uncle; Pablo Escobar. I’d suppose if there’s one uncle you don’t want to mess around with, it’s definitely him.
Written and directed by LIFE OF PI actor Andrea Di Stefano, it’s his first big feature but what a one to choose! Del Toro has already taken on Che Guevara so what’s another real-life character – and he looks menacingly brilliant. It’ll also be interesting to see young Hutcherson away from the safety of THE HUNGER GAMES (Yes, we know he’s done other things) but this seems to be an intelligent choice and his innocence could really pay off here.
Check out the teaser:
PARADISE LOST currently opens in Spain on 15th October, France on 5th November with further international dates to be confirmed. It also stars Brady Corbet and rumours of Carlos Bardem – that’s Javier’s older brother.
