Ones To Watch: The Mimic Series Two

the-mimic-channel-4

Channel 4’s The Mimic returns to our small screens for series two, and everybody’s favourite nice but dim impersonator is set to keep you smiling once more.

To refresh your brain, at the end of series one Martin (Terry Mynott) was ready for his TV debut, but nerves got the better of him. It did have a happy ending though, with the gang enjoying a little time together, including Martin spending time with his son Steven (Jacob Anderson) and his mum Dionne (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) and the best ending of all, Jean (Jo Hartley) and Neil (Neil Maskell) getting together. Because it ended so happily at the end of series one, where do we find Martin in series two?

Sadly, heading into the Job Centre. He left his job, and now he is desperate to try and get on the job ladder once more…but his viral success is kind of getting in the way. Meanwhile Neil and Jean’s honeymoon period is most certainly over, and while Neil is trying to her back, Jean is taking on a new lease of life. Everybody seems to be moving on with their lives, but Martin is stuck, and Steven tries to get him going before he goes away travelling. Does Martin get the ball rolling? Well you’ll have to watch to find out.

The Mimic seems a lot more confident in its second series, and it definitely shows. While we initially came along for Mynott’s brilliant impressions, we stayed for the wonderful characters and misadventures of this brilliant if unconventional cast. We’re very happy to see it back.

The Mimic airs tonight, 10pm, on Channel 4. Check out our interview with Terry Mynott here.
