He wrote the script for the original film, now Chris Columbus is rumoured to be on board to produce the GREMLINS remake.
The HOME ALONE director had a string of successful projects during the 80s and early 90s directing classics such as ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING and MRS DOUBTFIRE. Not much is known about the remake apart from it being set 30 years after the first film’s events. Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg are also confirmed as producers for the film.
If this is true, I am sure fans of the original are breathing a little sigh of relief for having Columbus back on board. But that is not the only Columbus rumour, it was earlier announced that a sequel to THE GOONIES is in the works. Richard Donner has been developing ideas for the follow up to the 1985 hit film with Steven Spielberg. Not much is known about the sequel apart from talks of the original cast returning. Columbus is rumoured to be in talks to produce the sequel to the adventure classic that sees a group of teens set off in search of buried treasure.
I’m not usually a fan of remakes or sequels after a massive gap but I like that the original crew are heavily involved. It gives hope that your favourite films won’t be trampled on too much.
Keep checking back for more news as it comes in.
