In a slight change of pace for the site THN were invited along to an evening of art. To coincide with the release of THE DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES artist Martin Firrell explores the film’s themes with a new art installation It Ends Here. Firrell is a public artist, cultural activist and humanist who mines popular culture for insights into war and peace.
It Ends Here is being held underneath Waterloo station at the vaults; the exhibition comprises of four rooms – Abuse and Paranoia, Idiocy and Wisdom, Brutality, and Resistance. Firrell uses constructed and installed text to explore human nature and the road to redemption, or hell. Check out the video to see what he had to say about his work:
Each room is a different colour, reminiscent of the film CUBE, we had red, green, blue and yellow; the brutality room however, is completely devoid of all light, requiring a torch to view. The first room had two levels to it with the gridded floor of the second tier being a fairly unnerving platform. The Brutality room’s lack of light will unnerve most, but there will be a few out there for whom a weird sense of peace will descend.
The installation will be open to public viewings from 4 – 10pm on the 10th – 12th July, and is completely free of charge. For more information, head right here.
