It’s the night of the tough-to-type surnames as comedy star Jason Sudeikis is to appear alongside his CAMPAIGN compadre Zach Galafianakis and Kristen Wiig in a crime drama formerly known as LOOMIS FARGO, currently untitled. I would have thought this is being changed due to parallels with Fargo and it isn’t clear if it’s a place or the main character’s handle. Either way, the “true” story follows an amateur heister who is betrayed by his fellows before plotting vengeance from Mexico. The actor will play an assassin, presumably a highly affable one based on his turn in HORRIBLE BOSSES (the sequel to which, inexplicably, is on the way).
Just as Wiig has been showing her serious side in THE SKELETON TWINS, so WE’RE THE MILLERS lead Sudeikis is getting a chance to broaden his horizons and by the looks of things director Jared Hess is mining the tragedy behind the funny faces of his cast. It will also be intriguing to see how Hess fares with the material, as his typically comedic output is best described as wildly inconsistent, from NAPOLEON DYNAMITE to NACHO LIBRE.
Featuring Owen Wilson (reunited with Sudeikis from HALL PASS) and written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the rebranded result will be produced by Relativity Media.
