Ones To Watch: Murdered By My Boyfriend

murderedbymyboyfriend

BBC Three have made some harrowing docudramas over the last few years but their latest Murdered By My Boyfriend is the most important yet.

Written by Regina Moriarty and directed by Paul Andrew Williams, it tells the true story of 17 year old Ashley (Georgina Campbell), who’s life is pretty much normal of a girl her age: she goes out with mates and has a part time job, but then she meets Reece (Royce Pierreson) at a party. She still manages to keep up appearances spending times with her mates and working, but behind close doors their relationship shows a different story. The one hour drama follows the devastating development of the relationship over a four year period.

It might be very tempting to just brush this off because it is a BBC Three drama but don’t. This no holds barred drama with haunting performances from Campbell and Pierreson will move you to tears. The creators of the film have said they hope the film will make young viewers talk about abusive relationships and how to tackle them, there is no doubt it will get people talking.

If there is one thing you need to do today – make sure it is watching Murdered By My Boyfriend. It is no doubt the most important drama to come out of the BBC this year.

Murdered By My Boyfriend airs tonight, 9pm, BBC Three.
