Synopsis: Lester Nygaard pushes Lorne Malvo’s buttons and Deputy Molly Solverson’s theories are finally recognised.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this latest episode of FARGO, with one more to go I expected it to blow me away more.  Sadly, it just lacked a little kick.

The last episode showed how everyone had moved on with their lives a year later.  Deputy Molly Solverson and Gus Grimly were together and expecting a baby whilst Lester Nygaard was the success he always wanted to be.  Of course everyone couldn’t quite forget all that had occurred and unfortunately for Nygaard, he was reminded of his bloody past when he saw Lorne Malvo entertaining friends in a Vegas bar.

This episode began with Nygaard approaching Malvo, clearly he lost his brain when he won his ‘Salesman Of The Year’ award.  Malvo denies all knowledge of knowing him but Nygaard pushes and pushes.  Malvo asks him if he is sure he wants to do this and Nygaard cockily says yes, before we know it Malvo has shot his new friends and supposed girlfriend in a matter of seconds.

A terrified Nygaard escapes Malvo and gets the hell out of dodge.  Scared that Malvo is now after him, he heads back to Bemidji and reports a heavily modified version of the murder to none other than Solverson.

Malvo has a creepy encounter with Solverson’s dad at the diner whilst he is searching for Nygaard.  This is perhaps one of the most intense scenes of the series as Solverson and the FBI guys are on their way to discuss the case.  Of course they miss each other by seconds.  Good news for Solverson though as the bumbling FBI guys are finally interested in the case and praise her work on it in front of Chief Bill Oswalt.  Somebody is finally listening to her!

Perhaps the most chilling part of the episode is towards the end when a cowardly Nygaard sends his new wife to her death as he fakes an illness so she can go into his office and he suggests she wears his orange coat with the hood up as it’s cold out.  This confirms that the new man Nygaard thought he was, was just a dark front and that there is truly no changing him.  For him to send his lovely new wife to her death proves that his character will meet a rather nasty end.  At least I hope he does!

Malvo was also pretty interesting this episode, he took on a new persona as  a fun guy dentist to get close to a guy whose brother is in witness protection.  For him to go so far as to practice as a dentist and get a girlfriend shows his dedication to his ‘hits’.  His stories and anecdotes were  fun and I thought maybe there is a warmth to him, of course him killing his new friends without a second thought purely to prove a point to Nygaard shows how wrong I am.

So we have one episode left and there appears to be so much to tie up.  I know they have commissioned another series but we believe that’s a separate story. Who knows how this will end but judging by the rest of the series, it is sure to be explosive!
