Much to the dismay of people who like good films everywhere, Paramount Pictures’ International svp Edward Ryan has confirmed the 2016 release of HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS 2 at CineEurope in Spain.
The horror-fantasy original raked in over $226 million at the worldwide box office on a $50 million budget, leading Paramount to presumably do the whole dollar-signs-in-their-eyes skit over the whole thing. And thus, in two years’ time we can expect to see Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner back on the silver screen, shooting up witches and stuff.
In case you can’t tell at this point, I wasn’t exactly the biggest fan of Tommy Wirkola’s HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, finding it patronising, tiresome and all around not much fun. It’s not known whether Wirkola will return for the sequel, though Arterton and Renner are a fairly safe bet to have signed on for potential sequels.
Let us know your thoughts on this latest case of sequel-itis in the comments below. HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS 2 is due for release in 2016.

I would be surprised if Renner and/or Arterton didn’t negotiate their way out of this one if they really are contracted to a franchise (I’d be surprised if they were, even the studio was surprised to green light a sequel so unless they realllllly thought ahead when signing actors…). To my knowledge, Wirkola is actually the only one who has confirmed for sure that he will be back for this picture.
