Does ‘Doctor Strange’ Have Its Writer AND Sorcerer Supreme?

It hasn’t been all that long since it was announced that the master of magic himself, Doctor Strange, had been added to Marvel’s cinematic roster. Make no mistake, over here at THN we’re more than glad about it and you should be too. However, following the recent news that Stephen Strange will be heading to our screens with Scott Derrickson at the helm, Deadline are now reporting (though, as always, take these things with a pinch of salt) that DOCTOR STRANGE may have its writer and protagonist.

The word on the crime-filled streets is that PROMETHEUS’ own Jon Spaihts is taking up the pen and quill to re-pen the first draft of the script, which came from the likes of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. Now, aside from PROMETHEUS, Spaihts’ resume is relatively short when it comes to the silver screen. Whilst he is attached to the 2016 reboot of THE MUMMY, his only other work (as a writer) included THE DARKEST HOUR, which…. didn’t do so well. But worry not, Marvel have made essentially nothing but good decisions this far in and they most certainly have earned the respect they deserve for it.

Secondly, perhaps even more shocking is that DALLAS BUYERS CLUB’s own Jared Leto might be in the running to pick up the ol’ cape and Eye of Agamotto, joining Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch as front-runners. Personally, I think these are more rumour than anything else and I would be surprised if any of them were selected for the role.

I know, I know, surely it is early days yet to announce such things, especially considering we haven’t even dealt with the (likely) emotional rollercoaster rides that are GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, ANT-MAN and CAPTAIN AMERICA 3. Buckle up, fans, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

DOCTOR STRANGE will be directed by Scott Derrickson and currently has no other talent attached, nor release date.
