Ron Perlman Will Never Give Up On ‘Hellboy 3’

Hellboy.

With all the craze around big budget superhero franchises in Hollywood these days, one would assume that the HELLBOY series would be more of a popular property. However when the original two films hit theatres in 2004 and 2008, they were met with great critical reception but failed to make much of an impact at the worldwide box office. In fact both films barely managed to recoup their large budgets, which is incredibly surprising given their quality and wide appeal.

Despite this, the fantasy film series still has a very devoted fan base that is determined to see a third HELLBOY film produced to complete Guillermo Del Toro’s epic trilogy. One fan that’s especially keen to make this happen is the big red guy himself, Ron Perlman. Ever since HELLBOY II: THE GOLDEN ARMY finished with more than one foreboding cliffhanger, Perlman and Del Toro have been eager to conclude the demonic hero’s story. Now in a brand new interview Perlman has once again expressed his interest in a third film. You can check what he had to say below:

‘I’d like to finish it. I’d like for there to be a third film because the first two films were set up for this huge resolve and he (Guillermo Del Toro) already understands what that resolve will look like. He never gave me the nuts and bolts of it, but he gave me a rather broad strokes sketch of what the third film would look like and it’s so epic and so deserved by the fans that hung in there for the first two that I really feel as though it’s essential that we make it. So I fight for it every day. Sometimes I’m the only voice and sometimes there are others, but I’m never going to stop trying to get Hellboy 3 made!’.

I think that there is a large portion of film fans that are also eager to see a third HELLBOY film receive the greenlight, but it seems that Universal are holding back due to the financial risk. Although, the large gap in time since the second installment was released, coupled with the frequent talk of a sequel, could have significantly raised interest in the series. As a huge fan of the fantastic, bizarre and action-packed first two films, I’m certainly with Perlman and dearly hope that HELLBOY 3 happens,
