‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Details Coming At Comic Con?

Power Rangers Movie.

The biggest geek event of the year is just over a month away now and we are already extremely excited. Yes that’s right the San Diego Comic Con is almost here and this one looks set to be a doozy. As you may already be aware, the annual event has become well known for huge Hollywood announcements (usually revolving around superhero adaptations).

With both Marvel and DC heavily rumoured to be making show-stealing announcements at the event, it seems that Lionsgate may be getting in on the action too. Not too long ago Saban announced they had teamed up with Lionsgate (THE EXPENDABLES, THE HUNGER GAMES) to produce a big budget Hollywood reboot of their prized Power Rangers franchise. The original premise of the 90’s phenomenon revolved around five teenagers that were gifted with extraordinary super powers (and multi-coloured spandex uniforms), in order to save the world from an evil space witch and her army of monsters. We do not currently know much about the plot of the planned reboot or how closely it will follow the original series, however we may not be too far away from getting some answers.

The most famous actor associated with the franchise is undoubtedly Jason David Frank, a man to play five different rangers in eight different seasons (including the upcoming anniversary episode of Power Rangers Super Megaforce). And now Frank has posted an intriguing image to his instagram that was mysteriously deleted soon afterwards. The image seemingly confirms a special appearance from the actor at San Diego Comic Con, and also hints at the involvement of Lionsgate. You can check out the image below:

The Lionsgate logo seen in the image seems to indicate that the ‘special appearance’ will somehow involve the upcoming reboot, which has lead to speculation that a big announcement could be made such as a release date or piece of casting. As the face of the franchise it would be wise for Saban to keep Frank involved in some capacity, which could explain the reasoning behind this mysterious appearance. Lets hope some exciting news is brought to San Diego.

Cameos by Austin St. John (Red Ranger), Walter Jones (Black Ranger), Amy Jo Johnson (Pink Ranger), David Yost (Blue Ranger), and Jason David Frank (Green Ranger/White Ranger) are a must! 😀

Would fans be upset if Steve Cardenas made a cameo as “the mentor” who passes the torch onto the next generation? He was the replacement-Red Ranger, after all, piloting the Thunder Megazord and the Red Dragon Thunderzord! :p
