Earlier this year, we heard some rumours that Game of Thrones‘ own Jason Momoa would throwing in what little Dothraki garments he wore in for something a little tighter. The essence of these rumours was – simply put – that he would be playing Aquaman in the then untitled BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and these rumours subsided when they were denied by various parties, Momoa included.
Now, new reports are coming in and we can confirm that the ‘King of the Dothraki’ will indeed be playing the ‘King of the Seven Seas,’ both in BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE as well as the as of yet untitled JUSTICE LEAGUE film. This may be news to some of you, but is it really all that surprising when you consider the tip-off we had in MAN OF STEEL? Wait, you did know about the easter eggs, right?
Those of you who followed the film closely may have noticed that General Swanwick used the military codename “Trident,” clearly a reference to Aquaman’s own. The oil rig that exploded? Yeah, that’s owned by Merrevale Oil, which is the same company that drills for oil in Atlantean ground in the comics. Oh, and when Clark awakens in the water post-explosion, the whales circling him begin to call. Who knows, maybe the oil rig was taken down by Aquaman and the whales were reporting in.
According to Geoff Johns, Aquaman has been a priority character for the company since 2004, it’s taken them a while, but it seems they’ve finally got him on-screen. This will be the first live-action theatrical depiction of Aquaman, just as it will be for Wonder Woman and the word is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean.
BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016 and will star the likes of Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons and Holly Hunter.

I hope to God this is just a rumour! Nothing against him, but he’s totally wrong for the part! I know WB wants to turn this character into a badass, but isn’t it possible to do that with an actor who actually LOOKS like Aquaman? I think it is.
