Warner Bros. To Announce DC Comics Movie Slate At Comic Con?

DC Comics Justice League

Warner Bros. have been rather slow at adapting their numerous DC Comics’ characters for the big screen compared to their rivals over at Marvel Studios. However it seems as if they are finally beginning to catch up, with the upcoming BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE reportedly setting the stage for the long-stalled JUSTICE LEAGUE team-up movie (which may hit theatres summer 2017).

The highly publicised MAN OF STEEL sequel is set for a May 2016 release, and is currently filming in Detroit, Michigan with Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman). With the film rumoured to include cameos from The Flash and Green Lantern (as well as the already announced Cyborg and Wonder Woman), Warner’s are clearly wasting no time in assembling their own AVENGERS-style superhero team. Now a brand new report claims that the gargantuan film studio behind HARRY POTTER have made plans far beyond that of Zack Snyder’s two aforementioned productions. It is also mentioned that an announcement for these films is planned for next months San Diego Comic-Con, which will no doubt steal the thunder from Marvel Studios. You can check out what the report says below:

‘We know that Warner Bros Pictures is way behind Marvel Studios when it comes to making movies out of its comic book properties. But I have intel on what is coming up at this July’s  Comic-Con from the studio. A lot of stuff remains in flux  but my sources have so far:

May 2016 – Batman v Superman
July 2016 – Shazam
Xmas 2016 – Sandman
May 2017 – Justice League
July 2017 – Wonder Woman
Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up
May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2′

The site also goes on to mention that the delay behind BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is directly related to the planned JUSTICE LEAGUE follow-up:

‘Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments. The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced.  And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge’.

If this proves to be correct then this is undoubtedly a hugely exciting announcement for both DC Comics fans and general moviegoers. The opportunity to finally see DC’s vast library of characters on the big screen in a large and regular capacity is definitely intriguing and tantalising. If Warner Bros’. gamble to introduce the majority of their characters in the form of cameos before JUSTICE LEAGUE and subsequent spin-off films pays off, then this would be a fantastic way to finally rival Marvel in terms of quantity and (hopefully) quality. It will also be interesting to see if the version of ‘The Flash’ used on the big screen will be the same iteration of the character played by Grant Gustin on the small screen. If so this would be a great way to combine both the DC television and film universes of Arrow/The Flash and BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.
