The MADAGASCAR trilogy became one of Dreamworks’ biggest cash cows, despite starring a bunch of animals that weren’t cows. As always in these animated features, there were a select group of supporting characters that completely stole the show. SHREK 2 had Puss ‘N Boots and DESPICABLE ME had those Minions, but for the MADAGASCAR franchise it was the quartet of sinister espionage penguins that captured everybody’s hearts. The guys already had their own TV show, but now it’s time they journeyed to the big screen in a madcap caper of their own, THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR.
From the looks of the trailer, it seems as though the penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico, are hired by an elite intelligence agency of animals. The penguins worked very well in their smaller roles in the MADAGASCAR films, and in the short episodes of their TV series, but do they really have what it takes for an entire feature? I absolutely adore penguins, as they are the world’s most perfect creatures with all their waddling and looking cuddly etc. So I’ll certainly be checking this out and hoping it matches their best moments from the previous franchise, as well as stacking up next to the likes of HAPPY FEET and SURF’S UP.
THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR is released 26th November in the US and 5th December in the UK. It stars the vocal talents of Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Christopher Knights, Benedict Cumberbatch, John Malkovich, Peter Stormare, Andy Richter, Ken Jeong and Annet Mahendru.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
