She opted not to return for series four of The Voice UK and now it appears she’s trading vocal coaching for tectonic scorching as Kylie Minogue has signed up to appear in SAN ANDREAS. It’s easy to forget she’s an actress, but Kylie has dabbled with movies over the past three decades, with roles in THE DELINQUENTS, STREET FIGHTER and MOULIN ROUGE. Her last high profile acting job was alongside David Tennant in the Doctor Who festive special Voyage Of The Damned. If this is an attempt to crack Hollywood or whether she’s merely cropping up remains to be seen. The US-set film is actually being shot in Australia, which may also explain her involvement.
Stars Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino play estranged but clearly resourceful parents, who undertake the world’s most perilous road trip to rescue their daughter when a superquake hits California. Is this Warner Bros’ attempt to hark back to the days of producer Irwin Allen (THE TOWERING INFERNO), or are we going to see a more flaccid imitative effort along the lines of VOLCANO with Tommy Lee Jones? We’ll find out when the ground trembles this time next year.
Directed by Brad Peyton (JOURNEY 2: THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND), SAN ANDREAS also features Ioan Gruffudd (FANTASTIC FOUR) and Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife). Let’s hope audiences don’t find fault (yep, I really just said that).
