Vincent D’Onofrio Takes Fisk In ‘Daredevil’

Vincent D'Onofrio

Massive, bald and as calculating as an accountant on National Abacus Day, business bad guy Wilson Fisk (aka “The Kingpin” from Marvel Comics) is now set to get a new lease of life on Netflix’s forthcoming Daredevil TV series. While a buffed-up Matt Lucas is a casting suggestion that appeals, the true choice is a welcome sign of quality – character actor Vincent D’Onofrio. D’Onofrio had a rising profile in movies like MEN IN BLACK before settling into the Law & Order franchise. There he was fighting for truth and justice – here he’s the polar opposite, forming a substantial nemesis for Charlie Cox’s title character.

For those who’ve been living under a rock for the past few decades (and if you have that’s a fetish that really wants analyzing) Daredevil is the tightly-costumed pseudo side of blind attorney Matt Murdock. With the forces of law and corporate skullduggery going head to head we might be getting some tasty chunks of satirical action, and a heavyweight like D’Onofrio will add more than enough gravitas to get the electricity flowing. Previous screen incarnations of the hero have failed to gel with critics or audiences – those with long memories may recall Street Hawk‘s Rex Smith as Daredevil in The Trial Of The Incredible Hulk, where he cunningly put some kind of sock on his head. Then there was Ben Affleck in the movie that was so compelling they chose to shoot a spin off starring Jennifer Garner. Affleck better think twice before taking on any other comic book roles again!
