Beyond film and the movies, music has always ruled my existence for many reasons through my life, changes and alongside some of the best memories I’ve had in my life so far – why do I admit this so freely? Because this first trailer for ALIVE INSIDE, has stirred the power of what it can do and how it’s being used to here to reawaken lives people thought were lost. Our very own CEO, Paul Heath, saw the documentary back at Sundance earlier this year (where it won the Audience Award) and highly recommends (you can read his words here) so to get my first look is long overdue but this has to be shared.

ALIVE INSIDE is an exploration of music’s capacity to reawaken our souls and uncover the deepest parts of our humanity. Filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett chronicles the astonishing experiences of individuals around the country who have been revitalized through the simple experience of listening to music.

This documentary follows social worker Dan Cohen, founder of the nonprofit organization Music & Memory, as he fights against a broken healthcare system to demonstrate music’s ability to combat memory loss and restore a deep sense of self to those suffering from it. Watch the trailer:

We learn that Rossato-Bennett visits family members who have witnessed the miraculous effects of personalized music on their loved ones, and offers illuminating interviews with experts including renowned neurologist and best-selling author Oliver Sacks (Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain) and musician Bobby McFerrin (“Don’t Worry, Be Happy”).

The film opens on July 18, 2014 in New York. Check out their official site here.
