Despite not earning its projected intake of $55 million at the weekend, Josh Boone’s adaptation of John Green’s YA novel THE FAULT IN OUR STARS is still leading the way at the US box office with $48 million. Still sounds pretty good to us. Even with a slight dip in weekend takings, the film can definitely be called a success.
Disney’s MALEFICENT is second in line with a not too shabby $33 million. But don’t get too excited just yet – THE FAULT IN OUR STARS took more money just on Friday than MALEFICENT took on its opening day.
Not so good news for Tom Cruise and Warner Bros. though. The sci-fi action EDGE OF TOMORROW only took $29 million. Only!? I know, but to put it into context, it cost a reported $179 million to make. The movie bosses will no doubt be hoping it turns out to be a slow burner. Surely the lure of Cruise will pay off?

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
