It has been announced today that the Sony Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production 22 JUMP STREET has jumped its way to the number one spot at the box office, taking an impressive £4.85 million this weekend in the UK and Ireland. The comedy sequel, which stars Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, has overtaken MALEFICENT, EDGE OF TOMORROW and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
In the film, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) head to university, having established that they aren’t great at abiding by the no alcohol/no parties rules required by undercover work in a high school.
As we near the halfway mark of 2014, the film has also managed to secure the highest opening weekend for a comedy so far this year, trebling the opening of 21 JUMP STREET which opened to £1.56 million in 2012 and went on to gross over £10 million.
