Josh Boone Gives ‘The Stand’ Update

 Josh Boone

Originally a novel by Stephen King The Stand got its first live-action outing in 1994’s TV mini-series. The series starred big names including Gary Sinse, Rob Lowe and Molly Ringwald and told the tale of the fight between good and evil in a post-apocalyptic world. A favourite story amongst fans of King’s work have been waiting since then for a film adaptation to materialise. This has been promised several times of the last twenty years but it is only now that it looks like the project may actually go ahead.

One of the many unlucky projects to suffer from the musical director syndrome THE STAND looks to have finally found it’s helmer in the form of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS director Josh Boone. Given the director’s enthusiasm whilst talking to Vulture about the project one would hope that the production has found someone who will nurture the film into something special.

“If 12-year-old me had ever known that one day I’d be doing this, to even just go back and look at that kid, I’d be like, ‘Keep doing what you’re doing!’ It’s just crazy. I’ve met so many actors over the years, and like, when I met Stephen King, I hugged him with tears in my eyes. He meant that much to me when I was young. I still say everything I learned about writing I learned from Stephen King. I don’t read screenplays. I don’t read screenplay how-to books. It’s always just, establish the character. Establish the character.”

The book is a fairly hefty read and the mini-series had four ninety-minute parts, how on Earth Boone will fit all the material in to one film I don’t know but the director seems pretty confident that he can make it work. He also promised a darker adaptation that the TV outing.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that we brought you the news that regular Josh Boone collaborator actor Nat Wolff had signed on for an unconfirmed role. Boone revealed that the cast will be full of familiar faces, saying the movie would be crammed full of A-List actors.

“We’re going to do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognise and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome. I’m really excited. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve ever got to do in my entire life.”

His promise of A-List cast members is hopefully him alluding to the fact that he already has several signed up. Rest assured when we learn more you’ll know more.
