Penny Dreadful hasn’t even finished finished its first season run yet, but Showtime has announced that the horror series will be returning to our screens for a second season. When the show does return in 2015, it will also be longer with ten episodes instead of eight.
Penny Dreadful is a televised concept of the cheap 19th century British fiction publications, and in the show features public domain characters from British and Irish fiction including Dorian Gray (from Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray) and Victor Frankenstein and his monster (from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein). The show currently stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway, Billie Piper and Rory Kinnear.
In a statement released by the Showtime, president David Nevins talked about how picking up Penny Dreadful was one of the “easiest decisions” he had made:
“(Series creator) John Logan has deftly created an epic series that has drawn raves from a wide-range of audiences from quality drama lovers to critics, to hardcore genre fans.”
Penny Dreadful continues to air on Showtime in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
