THE WAR OF THE ROSES: THE CHLDREN is set to be the sequel to the 1989 film that starred Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Alex McAulay is now on board to pen the screenplay. McAuly has contributed his writing talents to the TV series Eastbound and Down as well as having written a blacklisted screenplay titled FLOWER, which is being produced by Eastbound and Down star Danny McBride.
The original WAR OF THE ROSES saw a bitter battle commence between a separated couple who both refuse to leave their house. As you may have guessed by the title to this sequel, it will focus on the children of Douglas and Turner’s characters. In the original, Sean Astin played the role of 17 year old Josh Rose, but there is no word yet on the casting.
WAR OF THE ROSES grossed $160 million worldwide back in 1989, but with 15 years between the sequels, will we get another hit? Based on the sequel book by original author Warren Adler, it should at least keep the same tone as it explores the cyclical nature of children making the same mistakes as their parents.
