News fresh in from the galactic newstand this afternoon that CHRONICLE and upcoming THE FANTASTIC FOUR director Josh Trank is joining the Star Wars franchise as he helms a mysterious Star Wars stand-alone film. The news stems from some information that Lucasfilm and Disney will be producing multiple stand-alone films that will continue to “tell new stories beyond the core saga.”
A statement from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy illustrates their confidence in their new family members, saying:
“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh into the family. He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”
Trank himself stated that he’s been a long-time fan of Star Wars, and evidently that is what Lucasfilm is looking for in their directors:
“The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”
I for one was rather impressed with CHRONICLE, and if Trank can bring that vision and originality to the Star Wars franchise, then I for one am eager to see what he can produce. As to what the stand-alone film is, we don’t know… yet. Check back for more as it comes!
What do you guys think? Who or what will the stand-alone focus on? Is Trank right for the directorial role? Tell us your thoughts in a comment below!
