Sigourney Weaver Teases A Potential Fifth ‘Alien’ Film

Alien Ripley

It’s been quite a few years since the ALIEN franchise has been on the right track. In fact, some may argue that James Camerons’ 1986 masterpiece ALIENS was the last truly great film in the series.

In 2012 Ridley Scott returned to the series he started in an attempt to once again re-define the Sci-fi genre, with the big budget prequel film PROMETHEUS starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Although PROMETHEUS received mixed reception from fans and critics (largely due to the strange inconsistencies with its predecessors), the film was financially successful enough to secure a sequel. With the currently untitled PROMETHEUS sequel seemingly set for an early 2016 release, it appears that the ALIEN franchise is committed to its prequel universe for the moment. However, Sigourney Weaver has now hinted that a return to the world of the first four instalments in the franchise is not completely off the table. Weaver’s role as Ripley not only helped shape her entire career, but also created the most iconic heroine in film history. After playing the character for four films which culminated with ALIEN RESSURECTION in 1997, it was believed that Weaver was finished with her most famous role. Now it seems that may not be the case! Check out what the wonderful AVATAR actress had to say below:

‘Had we done a fifth one, I don’t doubt that her humanity would have prevailed. … I do feel like there is more story to tell’.

‘I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story’.

It would be an amazing treat for moviegoers to witness Weaver reprise her part as Ellen Ripley one last time, in order to give a much better sense of closure and satisfaction for the character and franchise as a whole. Who knows? maybe after Scott is finished with his PROMETHEUS franchise 20th Century Fox will decide to green light a fifth ALIEN film…we can only hope I suppose.
