FROZEN, Disney’s most successful film…well, ever…has just passed its 12th week at the top of Japan’s box office.

The feature has so far sold 16.73 million tickets in the country and has raked in a massive $208 million (?21.2 billion). This past weekend the film brought in another $7.4 million, up a further 8% from the previous week.

The Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee-directed animation saw off X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, which took in $2.7 million (?272 million) on its opening weekend – a solid start but not enough to knock off FROZEN. Here’s a list of the Japanese box office top five:

  1. FROZEN (Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee): $7.4 million
  2. X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (Bryan Singer): $2.7 million
  3. MONSTERZ (Hideo Nakata): $1.9 million
  4. BANNOU KANTEISHI Q MONA LISA NO HITOMI – ALL-ROUND APPRAISER Q: THE EYES OF MONA LISA (Shunsuke Sato): $1.8 million
  5. SEITEN NO HEKIREKI – BOLT FROM THE BLUE (Hitori Gekidan): $1.5 million

We can’t say we’re not surprised!

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
