Josh Brolin To Voice Thanos In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ & ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’

This just in, sources over at Latino Review have confirmed a surprise appearance of none other than Thanos (yes, that incredibly smiley looking guy in the AVENGERS ASSEMBLE post-credit scene) in the upcoming space-epic GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and that he will be voiced by Josh Brolin. It is unknown if Damion Poitier will still be physically portraying Thanos, or if Brolin is taking up the mantle as well:

“An article on James Gunn’s post-production process reported a scene with Thanos on a rocket throne in Act 3, which suggests an appearance long enough that someone is going to have to voice the Mad Titan, someone that could take the part into AVENGERS 3 as a major villain.

That meant Marvel was looking for an actor of some caliber, someone that could give a performance to a very complex, but very purple-skinned alien villain.

Our sources tell us that person is JOSH BROLIN!!

He’ll be providing the voice of Thanos in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and with a name and reputation like that, it’s likely he’ll join James Spader and Tom Hiddleston as actors who have tried to kill The Avengers.”

For those of you who don’t know Thanos, but would like to, I suggest you go and read The Infinity Gauntlet and The Thanos Imperative comic story arcs to get to grips with who he is and what he can do. He’s a big-bad. He’s the final boss in that video game that you couldn’t beat when you were a child. He’s a member of The Eternals (a group of god-like beings with insane power) and in the comics he is famous for attempting to wipe out the entire human race with his manipulation of time, space, reality, and even the human soul through the use of the Infinity Gauntlet. That same gauntlet is spotted in THOR within Odin’s treasure room (watch it back, it’s only there for a split second).

UPDATE: Variety and The Wrap are now confirming that Brolin will ALSO appear in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON next year, adding that Thanos “will have a more prominent role” in that film than he does in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Be prepared folks, it’s likely he’ll appear as the be-all, end-all villain of AVENGERS 3. He’s here and he’s coming to destroy some stuff. A lot of stuff.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set to hit UK cinemas on July 31st and US cinemas on August 1st. It is directed by James Gunn and will features the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.
